Dial Up Internet

  1. The first step in troubleshooting any internet connection problem is to reboot your computer. To do so turn your computer off. Wait 60 seconds for the system to cool down and then turn your computer back on. Try to connect again.
  2. If that didn't work please make sure your computer has a phone line plugged into its' 'Telco' or 'Line In' jack, not the 'phone' jack. Make sure that this line goes to the phone jack.
  3. Now that we have determined that your hardware is connected properly please unplug the cable and hook it back up again.
  4. If this still didn't work try replacing the cord you utilize to connect to your wall jack. It may be bad.
  5. unplug any devices connected to your other phone jacks and try again. Sometimes the problem is with another device entirely.
  6. go to 'Dial Up Connections' and ensure that the proper connection is selected.
  7. ensure that your dial up connection number and settings are correct
  8. if there are any old dial up connection setting in your 'Dial Up Connections' folder, delete them
  9. ensure that you have the most up to date version of your modem driver installed.
  10. disable any existing firewalls that may be in effect on your computer.
